When photography becomes more than a passion with Paloma Perez

Actualizado: 10 mar 2019

For our second web magazine post, we’ll focus on Art, more precisely on photography.

In fact, one week ago we met a talented young photographer called Paloma Pérez Montaner.

Throughout Paloma’s journey, you will get to know more about the amazing but also competitive photography industry, the struggles and the passion of someone who chose to grow her passion for photography into a real job.

Paloma comes from Chile, she was born in Viña Del Mar and raised in Villa Alemana during her whole childhood.

After four years studying journalism and law, she decided to take a gap year to travel to New Zealand and Cambodia.

During her travels, she developed a passion for photography.

Paloma is now living in Barcelona where she’s studying photography at Grisart.

Since getting into the professional industry of photography and Grisart, Paloma has developed multidisciplinary skills such as Photography, videography, editing, collage, sounds awareness, body language and so on.

But there are some skills that she has to learn by herself

Paloma explained to us an aspect that many art students are facing, in fact, in most of the art schools - even in the most valued- they do not teach their students: how to sell themselves, how to create themselves an image, how to contact people, how to use digital platforms as a business opportunity and mostly how to turn their art into a real business .

Indeed, choosing to be an artist full-time is to be self-employed and even if Paloma has a strong passion for photography - in fact, she told us she’s shoots with her camera or with her phone at any given moment and everywhere – she would like to achieve some goals and objectives that would allow her to live from her Art .

Paloma also shared with us some internal and external issue as an artist and photographer :

“ I have doubts sometimes about my work, I asking myself if It’s enough “ .

In fact, being in the art industry also includes being aware of the competition. Because many people are doing photography as professionals or as self-taught and a lot of them are fully talented and creative.

Paloma expressed to us a frequent feeling she has “ When I’m editing or shooting I always feel like I could have done better or I could have done it in another way because you must think outside of the box “

She also communicated the feeling when it seems everyone has already done everything but then remind us that many ideas haven’t yet been explored.

Whilst finishing our discussion with her she wanted to share some pieces of advice to a beginner who would like to do photography.

From her point of view, you must start by taking pictures, but not only.

By just taking photos as many times as you can you will find your impression .

She finished by saying that you have to love what you’re doing and above all arrive at a point where your passion will sustain you.

We hope you enjoy reading , love all .
