How to make your ideas become real

Actualizado: 8 abr 2019

Hello, our dream team #inspired !

We're back today to the second part of our amazing interview of Zabah's creator : @RocioBerrendo. If you haven't check our first post is the opportunity to do it in order to keep on going 😘

"Zabah is not only my clothes, or my brand, I am Zabah" was telling us our beautiful and young designer. At only 20 years old she finally decided to jump into the entrepreneurial path and go beyond her fashion&design studies. She explains to us how to go from the very first idea of an outfit in her mind to an artisanal handcraft made piece of art. Yes, we call it art. Because each product is made one after the other and handmade. Is what we call "slow fashion" the opposite of mostly all brands who surround us. So, how does she creates hundreds of similar pieces only by herself? That's what you gonna discover in this article.

STEP 1: So obviously is to be INSPIRED, without creativity you go nowhere and that's why it is really important to be surrounded of inspiring and supporting people. (so if you don't know where to find them? Join our community 😉✌️ hehe). In second options as it is her case as well, you can find inspiration all around you, in nature, in travels you've made, or even in your smartphone by using the app Pinterest.

STEP 2: Sketching, but firstly in her mind, she says "I can pass literally all day and night long lied down in my bed looking the roof and thinking, thinking, thinking ..."

STEP 3: Next day she'll put all her ideas into paper and finally draw the final proper sketches.

STEP 4: Look for the raw materials, the perfect fabric, textures, prints. Take some samples and go back home to match the perfect combo with the sketches.

STEP 5: Create a colour map. As a little advice, we can recommend you to download the free app Pantone to capture all the colours who are around you. We love it!

STEP 6: Create the Technical draws which serve to create an image of a three-dimensional object onto a two-dimensional surface. Go have a deeper look to understand it better and see some examples here. If you're doing all by yourself as Rocio, it's easier to do it by hand but otherwise, it's better by computer.

STEP 7: Crate your size curve.

STEP 8: Create a pattern. According to Rocio, is the most difficult and complex part. That's why it is also the most expensive one if you do not want to do it by yourself.

STEP 9: Manufacturing: cut and sew on.

STEP 10: Photo shoots, marketing, social media, promotion ...

And abracadabra you have it done !

"Is really important to believe in yourself and in your talent"says Rocio, once this is done the world is yours.

You can go and check her amazing work at @zabah_clothing and get inspired ✨

Hope you enjoy reading and learnt a little bit more about the manufacturing steps in the slow fashion industry.
